Panel Discussion:

Cracking the Code: Making the Most of an Internship or First Job
The public relations industry is in its prime and New York is the industry’s hub. Join us at 2 p.m. for a panel discussion featuring HR and PR professionals who will help you crack the code and become a stand-out PR professional or intern.

Moderator:

Chris Olert, former assistant media director, Con Edison

After a rich career as a reporter, including The Associated Press, The New York Post, The Staten Island Advance and TV stations, I became assistant director, media relations for Con Edison. Along with Director Michael Clendenin, we and six managers were the face and voice of Con Edison in New York City and Westchester County. I directed the managers to find stories within the company to share with New York and national media. I left Con Edison to write a book, which is being typed. I also am doing free-lance media consulting and voice overs. In my spare time, I read newspapers -- ahh news from dead trees, new media, entertain occasionally on Twitter and savor cooking, plus attempt golf and thoroughbred handicapping. In my spare time, I consult with world leaders on peace initiatives, promote humor and promote friends and relatives in the theatre.

Panelists:

  • Brandi Boatner, digital experience manager, IBM
  • Scheron Brown, U.S. talent manager, Burson-Marsteller
  • Kathleen Duke, recruitment manager, Brunswick Group
  • Dan Fernandez,  associate account executive, Kellen Communications
